Performing Gender

Annie has been acting since she can remember. She has a costume rail full of clothes to wear, props to use, lines and movement memorized; Everything she needs to personify her character. Acting is her life.

But she can't play this part anymore.

My first performance as little boy blue

About the work:

This work is an autobiographical telling of my personal experience with gender and what it means to me, told through the lens of my life as an actor. We dip into different points of my life and how it shaped the person I am, from my first ever performance as Little Boy Blue to acting in front of gender psychiatrists to speed up my transition.

From lines from old faded letters, songs sung from plays of yesteryear, voices and faces from the past mixed with words raised high and music from played live. The performance is a mix of spoken word, poetry, story telling, projection, live and recorded music, physical theatre and audience interaction.
